Author releases "student-priced" audio version of The Letters

An audio version of The Letters: Postmark Prejudice in Black and White is now available.

Author Sheila White, narrator and executive producer of the audio book, took on the project to create an affordable option, particularly for students. White’s novel was recently taught at the University of Toronto.

“This is a time when standing up to racial discrimination is more important than ever. Readers will be inspired by the story of Canadian trailblazers Bill and Vivian White,” she said. “I put time and heart into this audio offering, aiming to make their incredible story more accessible, available and widely known."

White spent “between two hundred and three hundred hours” recording and editing the 33 chapters of The Letters, for a total run time of 14h20m. Ottawa broadcaster and community builder, Chris White, the author’s brother, contributes an Afterword.

Based on a true story of their courageous mother’s decision to marry their Black father in the face of familial and community backlash, The Letters is a story White says is important for more people, especially young people, to hear.

Copies are available for $10.50, inclusive, 25% of the cost of a physical copy from the publisher and all the other online booksellers. Patrons have the option of purchasing one chapter at a time for 50 cents a chapter directly from White by bank e-transfer to 416-605-0709.
